Help choosing laptop and Windows!?
What do you think of this laptop? http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11270010&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eCat=BC|84|56670|4580&N=4017750&Mo=9&pos=2&No=2&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&cat=4580&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&ec=BC-EC10590-Cat56670&topnav=# It's a good deal but the screen seems kinda small don't you think? Do you think i could ignore the size? or should i just get a different bigger screened laptop(non-touch screen/maybe no printer)? --------------------- If you had the option of upgrading from Windows vista home premium to Windows Ultimate for $160, would you do it(NOTE: if you do it, you don't get a free printer)? What's the REAL difference between Ultimate and Home Premium? They seem the same to me. Thanks so much in advance. 11 points to the best explained answer. (best+thumbs up)

- The screen size is relatively small because it is a touchscreen. Go for a larger screen if you want to lose this function and the printer. Think about portability - if you want to use it on the move / take it places, the tablet (touchscreen) can be really useful - you can use the computer with the screen folded flat on the keyboard and so its really portable. A larger screened one would be wider and less so. The real difference with Ultimate and Home Premium is just the amount of junk windows includes. Go for home premium. It'll have everything you need =D
- Well i dunno if anything explains it better than the following link will. It classifies the difference between all vista categories. I would still recommend home premium for a laptop as ultimate is pretty savage on the resources. http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsVista/vista-which-version.html Well the one you chose is too small for the screen size. I'd recommend a HP dv6799 which is decent enough. Supposingly you are ready to spend big bucks....( I dont think so) then just check out HP HDX Dragon http://www.notebooks.com/2007/05/08/the-dragon-hp-pavilion-hdx-20-inch-notebook-announced/ It is the ultimate laptop and i'm crazy about it. Its configuration is also too good to be true but i have seen it and it is truly a marvel.
- You're paying a lot for the swivel screen, touch screen and integrated bluetooth. If you have your choice (I think Dell still does), get XP Pro installed instead of Vista - Vista gives you nothing but glitz and a slower computer. The different flavors include different utilities, and the higher-end versions allow you to connect to a domain (an office environment) - something XP Pro does too. (Bluetooth costs about $10 - it's a USB dongle. You can even get an external fingerprint reader if that turns you on. It's really only handy if you log on and off all day.)
- Well, I recommend being wary of the HP brand--I've had some bad experiences. I own two laptops: one is a Toshiba with Vista Home Premium and the other is an HP with Vista Ultimate. Vista Ultimate is a combination of Vista Home Premium and Vista Business. Vista Home Premium is compatible with a lot more programs than Vista Ultimate. Whatever you do, do not get a 64-bit operating system if this is going to be your only computer. It's not compatible with much of anything right now. As for screen size, worry about that if you are heavily into photography or watching movies on your laptop, or some other graphics-heavy occupation. If not, don't worry about it. The smaller the screen, the more portable the laptop. HPs seem to be heavier than other laptops of the same size (my HP is a 17" and it's less portable than some desktops). Get what you'll enjoy.
