- a dot matrix printer prints using a set of pins, usually 9 or 24 which are set into a print head unit. they are capable of printing at very high speeds and are usually used in offices that use things like 2 part invoices that have a copy of the original made. there are mainly 2 types, 1 is called 'DRAFT' printing and the other is called 'LQ' which is 'Letter Quality' printing. they use a ribbon as the ink source and probably epson is the most famous maker of these printers.

There are 80 columns and 132 columns DMP' s available in the market. ADVANTAGES :- - Low operating cost. - Can print on continuous stationary. - DMP' s can print carbon copies. - They are roburst and can be used in dirty and harsh conditions.
