Citizen Printer

Why do we still use a dot-matrix printer?

I work at a multi-million dollar corporation yadda yadda yadda... Why do we use thes junky-a$s printers? They break down all the time, paper jams and what-not. They are noisy and messy and a pain in the a$s to load. I know were not the only ones, so whats the deal?

  1. Yes, we are using dot matrix as it's cost effective. And I think it's the only way to print double or triple layer invoices. In our country, Myanmar, it's also use for press film print.
  2. We have the SAME issue. Our department doesn't want to spend the money on a new printer basically. So who knows when we will get one. I had to do some pricing on new ones, and they were pretty pricey. So that's probably why. It's more cost effective to keep it.
  3. Cheap and efficient with very very clear and concise printing. Very fast too and can be shared by the whole office and keep up with the work. Why does it break - jam - etc. Make a list of just who uses it and who sabotages it and makes continual excuses as to why "their" work is not done. If you happen to be the only one using this printer and this does not apply, then it is time for you to take a few minutes and requisition a new printer. Attach copies of sideways printing when it jams and other "evidence" of the printers problems which will justify a new one. And - yes - the new one will most likely be dot-matrix/
  4. Well there are two reason that I know to keep the dot matrix... For small business, the tend to use carbon paper and need a printer that strikes on the paper to transfer the printout. For all business's.... Well some of the applications they use were developped for dot matrix printers and it's a real headache to move to laser printers and oftern the printouts don't work... I hit this problem as a consultant many times... Hope this helps...
