Do all inkjet printers use stepper motors?
I don't know how inkjet printers could work without using stepper motors, but in the printer I just disassembled the motor is a "RS-385SH-14180", here's the manufacturers site: http://www.mabuchi-motor.co.jp/cgi-bin/catalog/e_catalog.cgi?CAT_ID=rs_385sh It doesn't look like a stepper motor? Is it?

- No, it is not a stepper motor. It is a DC motor with brushes, also very popular in the electric model world. I don't think this can have been the main motor in your printer.
- i'm surprised as u are , what i know is that its all stepper motors , else it wont control the ink being printed. Peter r u sure of the DC motor issue
- No, it is not a stepper. I think it could be been used for a secondary task in the printer like loading / feeding the paper. Also I have to say that dc motors can be very accurate if they are used with an encoder (rotation sensor) and a closed loop control, however, stepper are usually used in printers because they do not need any sensor or control loop.
