Citizen Printer

How LONG should home printers last?

I have a Hewlett Packard DeskJet 950c. I bought it between 1995 and 1997. For some reason, as of today, first the black ink wouldn't work, now it doesn't print, at all. How long should a printer, purchased brand new, be expected to last? Should I try to have it repaired, or is it just time to replace it?

  1. Printers are cheap, replace it . best bet. ~
  2. Just buy a new one ! (they are cheap)
  3. first, there is no real answer to how long a printer should last. It depends on how well it was taken care of. You can read http://www.ccs-digital.com/inkjet-care.asp for details. But you got almost 15 years out of yours and that's very good. Don't bother repairing it. You can get a better, newer one with a warranty for less than it would cost to fix. On top of that, with the right printer you can get free ink. The best deal in a photo printer is the Epson Artisan 800 refurb direct from epson.com for $109 under clearance. It's a wireless copier/scanner/fax/photo/CD printer with 6 individual ink cartridges for high photo quality. The best warranty in the industry. For two years, Epson will fedex a replacement and pick up the old one should you need it. If that's beyond your budget there are several models in the $50-$80 range with 1 year warranty like the NX415 and workforce 600. Triple capacity ink cartridges for Epson are under $3 and you can get 11 free cartridges every month at http://www.ccs-digital.com/freeink.asp
  4. you got your money out of it.. printers are cheap now..just buy a new one. for example: http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0331796
  5. Hi, See Nowadays many printers are available in market at very reasonable rates. If you going for a repair it will cost more then u buying a new printer because if u going for a repair it will cost a repair charge and also you to replace a cartridge. So my point of view you should buy new printer Three month before only i have buy new HP F2448 All in one printer and its working very nicely u should go for it
  6. I'd say five years, give or take, for inkjet printers, maybe a couple years longer for laser printers that haven't been used extremely heavily. Remember back in the early 1990s when every printer around used that perforated paper with the holes on each side? Now think back to the last time you saw one of those. You've been lucky to get so many years of service out of that printer, and fortunately prices have come down.
  7. the warranty on printers usually range between 90 days and 1 year. meaning at the most the company only expects it to last a year.
