  1. Thermal Printer Commonly used by Dye-sublimation and label printers. Both are thermal. They use heat to transfer the wax to paper. Color ink jet printers use ink, not ribbons. Impact printers use inked ribbons, not wax ribbons. Color laser printers use toner. Best of luck.
