IS there any program that compares to quickbooks point of sale?

I really love that it takes from inventory and links directly to quickbooks, but we would rather not spend that much money. Maybe $500, but the cheaper the better. I know they have QBs Cash Register but there is no way to keep track of inventory on it? Any suggestions? Thanks!
