Citizen Printer

When was the last time you used a typewriter?

Yep, that now somewhat old fashioned metal box where you pressed on keys and tiny hammers would hit against an ink ribbon and leave characters on a piece of paper. (This also reminds me of something else I could ask, called a daisy wheel printer).

  5. NEVER. but i would love to try using a typewriter..
  6. In about 1974 when I had to write letters for Rotaract. It was a horrible experience. I would rather write longhand than use a typewriter. If you must, and have NO choice, go for an IBM selectric or one that has correcting tape. You probably don't realise how many typos you make that you unthinkingly go back and correct. I don't think daisy wheel typewritiers had any form of correction on them - but I might be wrong - the Diablo's I worked with didn't. Forget about 'drag and drop'.or rearranging paragraphs. PS: remember to buy carbon paper if you want a copy of your work. If they still sell it. Remeber to press the keys nice and hard.
  7. Yesterday! I have an Underwood No. 5 built in 1930 that I use quite lot. I love the loud "clack" that the typebars make when they hit the ribbon, and the "ding" of the little bell at the end of a line. I write a lot of letters to friends on it; and they get a kick out of the old-fashioned look. I guess it makes me feel like Hemingway, or an old-time news reporter, but without the felt hat and whiskey bottle.
