1. hi there. It has the letters and other characters carved out, like a typewriter, and makes the document by hitting through an inked ribbon, like a typewriter. Very old fashioned, not many around! Cheers, Steve.
2. A typewriter is an impact printer. You hit a key and the key hits the paper and leaves the imprint of a letter. Yes, that really is how things used to be done, not so long ago.
