How do I change a printer ribbon?

The printer I have is (according to what is written along the side) a Panasonic KX-P1123 24 Pin Multimode. It is a dot matrix job, probably older than I am and, until he died, my dad used to change the ribbon for me. Do I need a specific type of ribbon, what do I need to do (using words an idiot such as myself can understand) and how often does this eed doing?

1. there should B 2 tabs 1 on each side to relese it & yes u have to replace it with the same type, & they last a long time.
