  1. which os are you using and have you downloaded or got the appropriate driver on cd. if you have no driver try driverguide.com use the username drivers and the password all.
  2. First, is the printer turned on? Second is it connected to the computer? Third, in the control panel for printers, is use printer offline enabled (If so, disable that)? Right click my computer and click manage. Select device manager. Are the drivers installed? Is the printer software properly installed? If you answered yes to all but the offline question then you may have a disfunctional printer. But before you trash it, unistall the drivers and software for it. Disconnect it from computer and reinstall software. The HP setup software will tell you when to connect it. That should fix the problem for you.
  3. Install the proper driver and try again. You can download the proper driver for your printer from the following address http://www.driverstock.com/Hewlett-Packard-Deskjet-682c-driver-download/10-26-1715/index.html
  4. May be the driver u installed is not meant for the os u are using and always connect the hardware last go step by step install driver plug in printer install cartridge test print
  5. You can always call HP...They have 24 hour tech support. 1800HPINVENT
