Can I use Brother 1724 dot matrix printer instead of Epson LX-300 in printing concrete batch plants processes?

Epson printer LX-300 was supplied earlier as a printing tool for the ready mix concrete batch plant's production, monitoring of concrete mix, etc. This printer is out of order, now. We have a Brother 1724 dot matrix rinter in store. We are not sure if it could replace the LX-300.

  1. You can certainly give it a try and see what happens. You didn't mention if the software used is customized or proprietary, or if the printer was part of the package or purchased from a list of compatibles. If the software runs on the Windows platform, you have a greater chance that the printer could work with the right driver installed, but there's no guarantee of that as I found out many years ago with a company that had a proprietary Windows software package that was not well written for printer support and only certain printers could be used. The only possible problems would be that the software that is used is customized for use with the Epson or at least the emulation language is compatible with the Epson and the Brother wouldn't be compatible or have the right emulation capability or that the correct Brother printer driver could be loaded for the software to use. There can be so many inherent problems with using different printers on customized or proprietary software due to limitations of the programming I've seen, that only certain printers or printers with certain emulation capabilities can be used. So, can't hurt give it a shot and see what happens. The worst that would happen is that it wouldn't work. Best of luck.
  2. Yes you can. The difference is that the Brother dot matrix needs a parallel cable stead of a USB. SO you will need a parallel-to-USB cable. Go in the printer setup, add the Brother printer and go in the port setup, and select the port it is connected to. If the computer has a parallel port, then use it and go in the printer setup, select port, and select LPT-1 as the port. Now, you are ready :)
