Would a Hewlett Packard (HP) Deskjet F2280 All-In-One Inkjet Printer work on an Eee PC Linux laptop?
Hi I have an Asus Eee Pc Linux mini laptop and its really hard to get a printer for it as you cant insert a cd / dvd / etc into it so i was looking on the net, and i went on Play.com and found a Hewlett Packard (HP) Deskjet F2280 All-In-One Inkjet Printer. I was wondering if it would work without a cd and if it would work on linux! Please Help!

- HP list LINUX on the OS list for that machine, but the link os to an external site. See http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01174360&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3390947 for details. If they have downloadable drivers, copy them to a memory key and isntall them from that.
- Hello, (ANS) Unfortunately one of "the" biggest problems remaining with using any Linux based computer is finding Linux compatible device drivers. Including Linux compatible printer drivers. **device drivers are small pieces of additional software which allow one piece of hardware be correctly identified by the operating system and thus to talk (communicate) to each other i.e. OS to hardware & hardware to OS. **device drivers are required for most computer components such as printers, scanners, display drivers for CRT monitors or Flat panel screens, keyboards, mice, web cams, external hard drives, network cards, graphics cards, sound cards, etc. **My advise would be to work the problem in reverse here, that is to say find out which version (distribution) of Linux specifically you have installed and then contact a) the creators of the distribution for technical advise on which printers are fully compatible for your machine or b) contact ASUS for advise on which printers do have suitable drivers for this linux based machine. NOTE:- My advise is DON'T just buy any old printer and expect it to work as you will be very disappointed linux is NOT like windows or any other Microsoft product. Linux is a whole different ball game so to speak and it requires rather specialist knowledge before things work. Linux is more of a techie type operating system so the technical support is VERY different from most MS based machines. Hope that Helps? Kind Regards Ivan computer veteran.
- It looks like there are linux drivers for that printer. Be sure you read the instructions and follow them carefully for installing the driver. You may have to use a terminal to install the driver. Here is a how to for the terminal if you need it. Good luck
