  1. The correct noun to be added is "I" the sentence should read after it has been corrected as: After I put a new ribbon in the printer, my papers looked better. the second part of the original had the verb in the past (looked) the first part also needs to be in the past not in the present (so it is put not putting)
  2. Not sure I understand your question, but for "the correct noun" to add, I'd substitute 'cartridge' for 'ribbon.' Printers don't have ribbons; typewriters used to, long ago! Also I'd swap 'papers' for 'work' or 'printed papers.' Try: 'Putting a new cartridge in the printer improved the appearance of my work.'
  3. There is no need to add a noun as 'papers' is the noun. After replacing the printer cartridge, my papers looked better. My papers looked better after replacing the printer cartridge. You can add "I' in the prepositional phrase if you wish: My papers looked better after I replaced the printer cartridge.
